Interior Design Trends of 2023

Here at Cottswood, we have inspired Albertans for almost 35 years with timeless pieces and the newest in interior design and furniture trends. Trends have come and gone but what inspires us is great design. Sometimes, new trends become an essential part of the functionality of your home.  One thing that remains constant is that our showroom will always showcase how current trends can be used to make a timeless impression. Come and visit our showroom to be inspired today!

Decorating your home can be a daunting task; You should know what trends are on the horizon but you should focus on what makes you happy in your space and what brings your vision of home closer to reality.

Here are some of the top furniture trends we see coming this year.

Sustainable Materials

In recent years, there has been an increased focus on sustainability and environmental awareness within the design industry.  More companies are embracing eco-friendly, sustainably grown, and/or recycled materials for their furniture designs. In addition to being environmentally friendly, these materials add a unique aesthetic to any space they inhabit. The Neval Sectional from Rowe in our showroom is made from 50% recycled cotton, which offers unparalleled stain resistance and is upholstered in a nubby, boucle texture (also a trend for this year). So, if you're looking for an environmentally conscious way to spruce up your home, sustainability is definitely worth considering.

Texture

Texture is one of the best ways to incorporate depth and visual stimulation throughout your home. Being able to do this tastefully is a precise art; blending the rough with the smooth and knowing how to create visual texture—the sort that isn’t tactile at all -  poses a challenge when thinking about different spaces throughout your home. Key opportunities to incorporate texture will be upholstery and fabric options that are nubby or woolly, like bouclé, twill and some unexpected fringe. These fabrics are huge for seating surfaces like an accent chair in a bedroom, a sofa in your living room, a bench in your entryway, and even wall coverings.

Shapes

Like texture, shape can introduce something for your eye to catch, and introducing them into your home will be a big trend throughout the industry this year. Organic natural shapes with rounded corners, swooping arches and curves that play with weight and balance will add softness to your home, contrasting with the man-made shapes that are square and have sharp edges, which feel more industrial/commercial.  We have multiple collections like Cove & Form (which both include bedroom, living and dining furniture) and Alston (a large modular sectional) that offer these natural shapes you can expect to see throughout the year.

When it comes to furnishing your home in 2023, there are plenty of options – from eco-friendly materials and additional textures to untraditional shapes!  The difference between a design trend and a “Fad” is that a great design trend brings together fashion and function to make something timeless that survives for the long term. Cottswood Interiors and our professional designers can help ensure that your space reflects you and incorporates some of the upcoming trends.
